Everyone loves a before and after. This week we refurbished a sign that had seen better days. The Oregon elements can take their toll on signs all across town, but all is not always lost!
Dr. Meg Quinn from the Bush Animal Clinic reached out looking for a sign-facelift. Bush Animal Clinic is a landmark Central Oregon business that started in 1979. Dr. Meg and her team are committed to bringing you and your pets better health by practicing the art and science of Veterinary Medicine.
The sign came into the shop with peeling paint, rotting wood, and sun-damaged aluminum letters. (You can usually tell which side of the sign faces south because it’ll be a completely different color than the other side!)
We started by stripping the paint from the sign. From there we used a belt-sander to wear away stains from paint and rot from water damage. Layer by layer we uncovered the beautiful clear fir glulam beneath. Instead of repainting with an opaque stain we finished the wood with a clear lacquer.
The final step was to retreat the letters since the aluminum text was discolored and in need of some paint. To prepare for powder coating, the pieces were carefully removed and sandblasted. A bright white powder coating was applied to increase contrast and help the business name pop.
Once all the pieces were reassembled it was like night and day. The re-finished wood and the fresh coat of paint brought life to the sign and an eye-catching presence back to the business front.
