The Hixon at Westside Yard project contains several unique design elements that work together to move this exciting project into a class of its own.

In this post we will focus on the large scale 3D topographic representations of the iconic Three Sisters and Mt Bachelor wall maps.  These maps are 8 feet high x 20 feet wide. The Three Sisters map is located in the 6th floor Amenity Room while the Mt Bachelor map is located in the resident lobby mail room.

The maps are constructed from multiple layers of 5mm birch MDF core plywood with each layer depicting an elevation line on a topographic map. The layers are then shaded to provide dynamic contrast and interest as you rise to the peaks of the respective mountain tops.

The team at MC Smith refined the design presented by the Hound Agency for manufacturing and then utilized a CNC router to create the 11 sub assembly layers and then custom mixed the paint to get just the right base to peak contrast.

The finish wall maps provide a striking depiction of our central Oregon Iconic mountains and add a one of a kind, signature element to the Hixon Apartment project.
