What happens when you already have great signage for your business but your business is moving?

That was exactly the case for Joanne Sunnarborg, the owner of Desperado Boutique.  Her previous location in Bend’s Old Mill District contained signage that was in great condition.  She reached out to us to see what we could recycle during her move to the new location.

Our field technician visited both the previous location and the new one on Bond Street in downtown Bend.  It was clear right away that the two store fronts were very different.  Her large wall sign in the Old Mill could not be reused for the exterior of the Bond Street building, but her hanging sign could.  There was only one problem:  the hanging sign had nothing to hang off of at the new location!

MC Smith Signs devised a plan.  In order to reuse her existing hanging sign we would need to design and have a bracket fabricated to bolt the sign into.  We needed to integrate the look of the new bracket into the styling of the existing sign.  We didn’t want the bracket to be bulky or detract from the sign itself, but we also knew it had to support a substantial weight.

The existing sign was a black pan sign with welded arms that had been previously attached to an awning crossbar.  We would create a triangle bracket to secure to the brick wall on Bond Street.  We would then attach the existing hanging sign to that bracket.  Prior to production, we submitted permits with the City of Bend which were successfully processed.

MC Smith Signs designed the bracket and partnered with Redmond Welding to have it fabricated.  From there the bracket was taken to Commercial Powder Coating to have it powder coated a matte black.  Once installed the recycled sign really added that extra piece of eye-catching branding to the new storefront.  It was worth the effort!
